Built in 1879 as a war memorial on Galgenberg Hill (also known as Wilhelmshöhe), the 26-metre-high (98-degree) circular observation tower was extensively restored after the demolition of the defensive wall. It presents impressive views of Bad Freienwalde, the surrounding forests and hilly landscape, as well as the Oderbruch and Neumark regions beyond the Oder. The lookout tower is part of the Bad Freienwalder tower complex.
