Church in Smolnica

Monuments

Information

  • Address: 74-400 Sarbinowo
The existence of a church in Smolnica was first recorded in 1337. The church dates back to the 3rd-4th quarter of the 13th century, built of granite blocks laid in a regular pattern, single-aisled, with a massive west tower (as wide as the nave). In 1716, the tower received a new Baroque finial. In 1905, the church plot was surrounded by a stone and brick wall. Situated in the centre of the village on the east side of the main street, surrounded by the palace park, it became an integral part of the palace grounds. The church was burnt down in 1945. The stone perimeter walls of the nave and tower have survived. Rebuilt in 1984, retaining the early Gothic form (the Baroque tower finial was not rebuilt). It is one of the oldest churches in the municipality and one of the most beautiful 13th-century sacred buildings in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship.
